The origin of New Works

New Works is a young designer label founded in 2015 by Nikolaj Meier and Knut Bendik Humlevik. Their dream was to establish a studio where designs came to life and where there was room for creative experimentation, a place for 'New Works'.

Today, both men are still at the helm together, Nikolaj as CEO and Knut Bendik as Creative Director. With just a few passionate employees, they continue to work daily on a collection that consists of high-class home accessories at an acceptable price.

The core values of New Works

Certain ideals are still held in high esteem at the Danish New Works firm. Everything they do is based on four core values: Natural, Experimental, Tangibility, Artisanal.

'Natural' is evident in New Works' material choices. Marble, wood, and other natural materials play a leading role in this young Scandinavian brand's collection.

'Experimental' translates into the constant search for new shapes, materials, and textures. This obsession with detail and passion to innovate is the driving force behind the New Works' timeless designs.

'Tangibility'has everything to do with texture and feel. Design must be tangible. That is why New Works finds it so important to keep materials and techniques as pure as possible, in order to preserve the original roughness.

'Artisanal', i.e. respect for traditional crafting methods combined with techniques from all around the world; this enables New Works to push the boundaries of materials and design.

The New Works Collection

In addition to lighting, the New Works collection also includes furniture and decorative objects, such as candlesticks and vases.

The lighting segment consists of about ten collections. There's no bulky catalogue; instead, you get a small and refined selection of unadulterated conversation pieces. Perhaps the best example is the Material family. As the name suggests, the main feature of this simple design is the material used to make the lamps.

Our work pays homage to the strong Scandinavian history of craftsmanship and materiality, whilst challenging the contemporary forms of today.
